McAlpine Creek Park “Rock Star Raptor”:

Towards the end of my November 20th visit to McAlpine Creek Park, I encountered another “Rock Star Raptor!”

This time, it was a juvenile hawk, most likely a Red-tailed Hawk, but possibly a Red-shouldered Hawk.

This attractive raptor allowed me to approach relatively close, as it hunted at multiple adjacent locations on the ground, punctuated by brief perches on low branches of nearby trees.

Today, I would like to share some of my favorite images of this awesome encounter!

Enjoy!

Stay safe and have a great day!

More From McAlpine Creek Park:

Lately, I have had good luck encountering raptors during my visits to our local McAlpine Creek Park. In particular, I have been coming across Red-shouldered Hawks. My November 20th outing was no exception!

So in today’s post, I would like to feature a Red-shouldered Hawk, that I photographed early in the morning. I have also included several images of a couple of other avian species which I encountered:

Five photographs of the Red-shouldered Hawk; two images of an American Goldfinch; and three photographs of Downy Woodpeckers, one female and the other male.

Enjoy!

McAlpine Creek Park Rocks!

On November 20th, I had a very enjoyable and productive visit to our local McAlpine Creek Park.

Today, I would like to share an initial set of images from this outing.

The star of today’s post is a photogenic Golden-crowned Kinglet. In my limited experience, both Ruby-crowned and Golden-crowned Kinglets are a bit of a challenge to photograph. They are tiny perpetual motion machines, rarely stopping for more than an instant. I did, however, have pretty good luck with this individual!

I’ve also included photographs of two additional species in today’s post:

Five images of the Golden-crowned Kinglet; three photographs of a Great Egret; and two images of Eastern Bluebirds.

Enjoy!

Stay safe and have a great day!
