Riverbend Park: Great Blue Heron Haven
During my November 23rd visit to Riverbend Park, I encountered at least half a dozen Great Blue Herons along the Catawba River.
Today, I would like to share some of my favorite images of these impressive birds, created during this enjoyable and productive outing.
Enjoy!
Stay safe and have a great day!

Riverbend Park Bald Eagles:
On November 23rd, based on a recent post made by an excellent local photographer whom I follow on Instagram, I visited Riverbend Park, hoping to encounter Bald Eagles.
I was not disappointed!
This lovely park is located in Catawba County, along the Catawba River, near Conover, NC, approximately 70 miles from my home.
Within a few minutes of my arrival, a juvenile Bald Eagle flew from nearby me, across the Catawba River, and perched in a tree on the opposite riverbank, which was bathed in early morning sunshine!
Shortly thereafter, a second juvenile Bald Eagle flew across the river, and chased the first eagle from its perch!
A few minutes later, an adult Bald Eagle flew by, heading upriver, towards the nearby Oxford Hydro Station and Lake Hickory!
What a thrill! “Wow,” I thought, this is going to be an amazing day!
Unfortunately, I did not see another Bald Eagle during the remainder of my outing. But I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful sunny Fall day, hiking and birding my way through this attractive county park.
Today, I would like to share several early morning photographs of the two juvenile Bald Eagles. (I did not capture any images of the adult Bald Eagle worth posting. Maybe next time!)
Enjoy!
Stay safe and have a great day!
