Toby Creek Greenway

Toby Creek Greenway:

This past Thursday morning, January 9, 2025, I went birding along the Toby Creek Greenway on the UNC Charlotte campus, with two other intrepid members of the Mecklenburg Audubon Society.

It was quite cold, 19° F at the start of our walk, but there was little wind and brilliant sunshine!

My fingers got so cold, however, that soon I couldn’t feel my fingertips, and I had to visually confirm that I was touching the shutter release button whenever I prepared to take a photograph!

Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable and productive outing!

Here are several of my favorite images from this morning:

Two photos of a Red-tailed Hawk; Hermit Thrush; White-throated Sparrow; Northern Cardinal; Carolina Wren; Ruby-crowned Kinglet; Red-winged Blackbird (Female); Yellow-rumped Warbler; and an Eastern Phoebe devouring an insect.

Enjoy!

Stay safe (and warm), and have a great day!
