Barred Owlet Rockstar!

Last evening, I was fortunate enough to encounter one of “our” two Barred Owlets perched relatively low in a tree, about 20 feet off the ground!

Despite being so close by, this plucky owlet was very comfortable with my presence.

It continued on with its evening routine of looking around, preening and stretching, and permitted me to observe and photograph it for two hours, as dusk set in!

Today, I’d like to share several of my favorite images from yesterday’s pleasurable and prolonged encounter with this cooperative and photogenic raptor.

Enjoy!

Stay safe, and have a great day!

Recent Backyard Raptor Sightings:

Our two Barred Owlets have been doing a great job hiding in the canopy of our woods!

Although I can find Mama Barred Owl on pretty much a daily basis, I have only found one Barred Owlet twice in the past several days.

I have not seen the two owlets together, or Mama Barred Owl with either of her owlets.

Three days ago, I found Mama Red-shouldered Hawk, and one of her newly-fledged offspring, nearby their nest.

Today, I’d like to share several recent images of these raptors gracing our backyard:

Four photos of a Barred Owlet from May 29, 2022; four shots of Mama Barred Owl from May 26, 2022; and an image of Mama Red-shouldered Hawk, and one of a fledgling, both from May 29, 2022.

Enjoy!

Stay safe, and have a great day!
