A New Year’s Wish:
As 2021 comes to an end, and 2022 is dawning, I am hoping that the current Omicron variant surge will end up being our “ticket to the off ramp” from the prolonged and painful Covid-19 pandemic.
With its high level of contagiousness, and apparent less virulence than previous Covid-19 variants such as Delta, coupled with continued increasing vaccination of the population, perhaps Omicron will help us to achieve “herd immunity,” sooner rather than latter, thereby eventually quelling the now surging pandemic.
That’s my New Year’s wish.
We’ll see if it happens in the coming weeks!
In any case, here are a few more images from December 14, 2021 at Chantilly Ecological Sanctuary for your to enjoy:
Two photos of an American Kestrel; two shots of Eastern Towhees; Red-headed Woodpecker; American Goldfinch; Northern Flicker; and two images of a House Finch.
Stay safe, and have a Happy New Year!

Chantilly Rockstar Raptor:
Toward the end of our December 14, 2021, visit to Chantilly Ecological Sanctuary, a photogenic and “cooperative” Red-tailed Hawk flew in.
I spent about an hour observing and photographing this Rockstar Raptor!
Today, I’d like to share some of my favorite images from this prolonged encounter.
Enjoy!
Stay safe, and have a great day!

Chantilly Ecological Sanctuary:
I spent the beautiful sunny morning of December 14, 2021, at our local Chantilly Ecological Sanctuary with a small group from the Mecklenburg Audubon Society.
During this fun and productive morning, we encountered 36 avian species!
Today, I’d like to feature images of two pairs of laid back Hooded Mergansers, that cruised the Ecological Sanctuary’s small pond for the entire morning!
Enjoy!
Stay safe, and have a great day!
