Landsford Canal State Park

Landsford Canal State Park:

On June 4, 2021, I visited Landsford Canal State Park for the first time.

This lovely park is located along the Catawba River in Chester County, SC, about 35 miles from our home.

For me, the main attraction of Landsford Canal State Park is the largest known stand of Rocky Shoals Spider Lillies, which grows right in a shallow stretch of the Catawba River, flowing through the park.

The Spider Lilly bloom peaks in late May and early June, and is quite impressive!

During my visit, I quickly realized, much to my chagrin, that probably the best way to experience these flowers is while paddling through the massive stand in a kayak.

I’ll try to do this the next time that I visit Landsford Canal.

In any case, today I would like to share several images from my outing, taken from the viewing platform located on West bank of the Catawba River.

In addition to the beautiful Rocky Shoals Spider Lillies, these photos feature kayakers, Red-winged Blackbirds, and an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly.

Enjoy!

Stay safe and have a great day.
