January 4, 2021:
Finally A Sunny Day!
Today is the first sunny day of the New Year here in Charlotte, NC!
I took advantage of the lovely weather and went birding at our local Reedy Creek Nature Preserve, hoping to find a Rufous Hummingbird and Purple Finches, both of which had been spotted there recently.
I walked a lot, covering most of the attractive preserve. However, it was a pretty quiet morning bird-wise. No Rufous Hummingbird! No Purple Finches!
So it goes with Mother Nature! You can’t be lucky all of the time.
Nonetheless, I enjoyed getting a little exercise and mental health time out in the Sun and fresh air.
Before moving on, today I’d like to share one final set of images from my December 15th visit to Clarks Creek Nature Preserve:
Tufted Titmouse; five photographs of Blue Jays; one more image of the Hooded Mergansers; Field Sparrow; Carolina Chickadee; and a Northern Cardinal.
Enjoy!
Stay safe and have a great day!

Clarks Creek Nature Preserve Woodpeckers:
The sun is finally beginning to poke out a little today, after four dreary rainy days in a row. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny, so I plan to go out birding with my camera in tow.
In the meantime, today I would like to share a few additional images of Woodpeckers, from my December 15th visit to Clarks Creek Nature Preserve:
Three photographs of a Downy Woodpecker; Northern Flicker; and two images of a Red-bellied Woodpecker.
Enjoy!
Stay safe and have a great day!

Hooded Mergansers Back At Clarks Creek Nature Preserve!
During my December 15th visit to Clarks Creek Nature Preserve, I was delighted to find three Hooded Mergansers, two males and one female, swimming on the pond.
For about 45 minutes, I was able to quietly observe and photograph them cruising around, until they discovered me and flew off.
Today, for your viewing pleasure, I’d like to share a series of images from this encounter.
Enjoy!
Stay safe and have a great day!
