McDowell Mallards:

While I was hiking along the Cove Trail during my October 19, 2020 visit to the McDowell Nature Preserve, I came across a raft of about twenty Mallards floating on the shallow water of the adjacent cove.

They permitted me to observe and photograph them, while I sat quietly at relatively close range.

Today, I would like to share several images of these attractive waterfowl from this encounter.

Enjoy!

Stay safe and have a great day!

McDowell Nature Preserve Kingfisher:

On October 19, 2020, I visited the McDowell Nature Preserve for the first time. It was an enjoyable morning of hiking and birding!

I started the day by hiking a couple of trails located along the shore of Lake Wylie. Appropriately, as I hiked the Kingfisher Trail, I observed and photographed a Belted Kingfisher hunting in the adjacent cove.

It demonstrated its fishing prowess by returning with a fish after virtually every attempt!

Today, I would like to share several images of this Belted KIngfisher.

Enjoy!

Stay safe and have a great day!
