West Bali Birding Finale:

Made and I finished up our February 24, 2020, day of birding in West Bali, by visiting a couple of locations that he suspected were likely to provide interesting birds. Once again, Made was correct!

For your viewing pleasure, here are a few of my favorite images from the end of a fun and productive day of birding in West Bali:

Two photographs of a Black Drongo; Two images of a Javan Myna; a pair of Black Drongos; Savanna Nightjar; two photographs of a Long-tailed Shrike; and another Savanna Nightjar.

This is the final post from my recent trip to Indonesia. It was a great adventure, which I was lucky to be able to take. I hope that you have enjoyed viewing these images.

Stay safe, and have a great day!

West Bali Birding (continued):

As Made and I were leaving Barat Bali National Park on February 24, 2020, we encountered a small group of Balinese Long-tailed Monkeys, who graciously posed for us for a little while.

Then we were off to Made’s home for a nice lunch, and a special treat. a Sunda Scops-Owl who hangs out in Made’s yard!

After lunch, we headed off to a nearby lake, to try our hand at photographing Swiftlets and Swallows, darting around on the breeze. It was a challenge to successfully image these small, speedy birds, which constantly changed direction. But it was a lot of fun!

For your viewing pleasure, here are a few of my favorite images from this part of our day:

Four photographs of Balinese Long-tailed Monkeys; two images of Made’s Sunda Scops-Owl; Cave Swiftlet; and a Striated Swallow.

Enjoy!

Stay safe, and have a great day!

West Bali Birding (continued):

The unquestioned stars of the show for this next segment of our February 24, 2020, day of birding in West Bali, were a pair of Black-thighed Falconets.

They were perched close to one another in Barat Bali National Park, and allowed Made and me to observe and photograph them preening and hunting insects on the wing for quite a while. The Falconets were perfect, efficient, “pint-sized” raptors, and were quite entertaining!

For your viewing pleasure, here are some of my favorite images from this portion of our day:

Grizzled Giant Squirrel; Butterfly; and eight photographs of the Black-thighed Falconets.

Enjoy!

Stay safe, and have a great day!

West Bali Birding:

February 24, 2020, my second day in Bali, I spent birding in and around Barat Bali National Park, located at the northwest tip of the island.

My terrific guide was Made Surya of Birding Tours in Bali, who grew up in West Bali. Made was extremely knowledgeable about the local bird life, as well as Nature in general in the region. He was also a total pleasure to spend a great day with!

For your viewing pleasure, here is an initial set of images from the very beginning of our day:

Green Junglefowl; Javan Banded-Pitta; Yellow-vented Bulbul; Butterfly; and six images of the beautiful endemic Bali Myna, which serves as the symbol of Barat Bali National Park.

Enjoy!

Stay safe, and have a great day!
