Curacao Day 7: Final Birding Walk
On the morning of my seventh day in Curacao, I went for a final birding walk, before flying back home that afternoon.
It was quite an enjoyable conclusion to a great trip!

Curacao Day 5: Afternoon Hiking
On my fifth afternoon in Curacao, my sister and I hiked along the picturesque cliffs of Watamula, located in the northwest corner of the island.
Subsequently, we also took a brief hike along the cliffs bordering Ascencion Boka, located on Curacao’s north coast, about one third of the way back towards the island’s east end.

Curacao Day 3: Shete Boka National Park
On the morning of my third day in Curacao last February, my sister and I hiked along the ironshore of the northwest coast of Curacao in Shete Boka National Park.
The Caribbean Sea was calmer than on previous occasions when I had visited the Park.
However, waves were still smashing into the jagged ironshore and exploding through blowholes!
We also ran into a few grazing goats along the way.

Curacao Day 2: Flamingos!
One of the special treats when birding in Curacao is reliable, close range encounters with the resident American Flamingos!
They are typically found wading and feeding in the Island’s inland salt pans.
During my second morning of birding, I experienced such an opportunity at the Jan Kok Salt Pans, located near the town of Williwood!
This spot is also known as the “Sint Willibrordus Flamingo Sanctuary.”
As I walked slowly and quietly, and often remained seated, patient and still, alongside the shallow water, individuals from a small nearby flamboyance of American Flamingos felt comfortable wading as close as 10 yards from me!
It was an excellent opportunity for observation and photography, which lasted for about 40 minutes!

Curacao 2023: Carnival
Carnival in Curacao is a joyous annual celebration spanning six weeks in January and February leading up to Lent, and comprising many events.
Preparation for Carnival requires several months and tremendous amounts of hard work, creativity, and elaborate planning.
At its conclusion, the celebration culminates with a Grand Parade and a Grand Farewell Parade.
The 2023 Curacao Carnival Grand Parade occurred on February 19th, the first full day of my visit to the island.
It was a loud, colorful, and jubulant event, lasting at least five hours, and was a blast to attend!
I’ll devote my next three posts, including today’s, to some of my favorite images from the Grand Parade.

Curacao 2023: Day 1: Birding
Last February, as the result of the kindness and generosity of my sister and brother in law, for the second year in a row I visited them at their “home away from home” on the lovely southern Caribbean island of Curacao.
At long last, I am now in the process of reviewing my images from this trip.
As I go through them, I’d like to share some of my favorite photos from my enjoyable week in Curacao.
