August 7, 2022:
Based on a tip from a fellow Mecklenburg Audubon Society member, this past April I made three visits to a local greenway, located just a few minutes from our home.
The reason for the visits was the presence of occupied Great Horned Owl and Great Blue Heron nests located in two adjacent trees!
This was the first time that I had observed/photographed a Great Horned Owl in the wild!
As far as I could tell, there were two Great Horned Owlets, and two Great Blue Heron Chicks, in their respective nests.
Here are several of my favorite shots from two of these visits:
April 8, 2022: Mama Great Horned Owl.
April 10, 2022: Six photos of the Great Horned Owlets; Mama Great Blue Heron; the two Great Blue Heron Chicks; and Mama Great Blue Heron & one of her Chicks.
Stay safe, and have a great day!
