Riverbend Park Swallows:

Easily the most difficult avian subjects to photograph during my April 2nd visit to Riverbend Park, were the many swallows incessantly skimming over the surface of the Catawba River, hunting insects.

Due to their small size, and their rapid and unpredictable flight patterns, they posed quite a challenge to image!

There were many more deleted photos than keepers!

Today, for your viewing pleasure, I would like to share some of my more successful efforts, along with a few Great Blue Herons, (significantly easier photographic subjects), thrown in:

Four shots of Tree Swallows; what I believe is a Purple Martin; two images of Northern Rough-winged Swallows; and three Great Blue Herons in flight.

Enjoy!

Stay safe and have a great day!

Riverbend Park Wows Again!

On April 2nd, I returned to Riverbend Park, located along the Catawba River near Conover, NC, for the fourth time.

As previously, I was hoping to observe and photograph Bald Eagles.

Once again, I wasn’t disappointed!

Four or five Bald Eagles were around intermittently throughout the day!

In addition, four or five Osprey fished in the river pretty much all day!

There were also many Northern Rough-winged Swallows and Tree Swallows, skimming the water’s surface, hunting insects!

At least a half dozen Great Blue Herons, many Double-crested Cormorants, and occasional Gulls were also around!

It was a great day, and I took a ton of photographs, which I have barely begun to review!

For a start, today I would like to share a few images from this outing:

Two shots of soaring Bald Eagles; a fishing Osprey; and a Tree Swallow skimming the river’s surface.

(Over the next few days, I plan to post additional images from this fun and productive day, as I have the opportunity to review them.)

Enjoy!

Stay safe and have a great day!
