Riverbend Park Gulls:

Today, I would like to share several images of two different Gull species from my February 23rd visit to Riverbend Park and adjacent Lake Hickory:

Three shots of Bonaparte’s Gulls; and six photographs of Ring-billed Gulls.

Enjoy!

More From Riverbend Park:

As we head into the weekend, I’d like to share several more images from my February 23rd visit to Riverbend Park.

As promised, they include a few photos of the Bald Eagles which I encountered. (As you can see, they were long distance shots.)

But it was still a thrill to have the opportunity to observe and photograph these amazing raptors!

The pictures comprise:

Four images of Bald Eagles, (two immature and one adult); two shots of Rock Pigeons; and two photos of Great Blue Herons.

Enjoy!

Riverbend Park Treat!

On February 23rd, I returned to Riverbend Park, located along the Catawba River, near Conover, NC.

I was hoping again to encounter a few Bald Eagles, as I had during my previous two visits.

Once again, I was not disappointed!

I observed, and photographed, three Bald Eagles, though none at close range.

What a thrill!

(I plan to post a few images of these Eagles tomorrow.)

Surprisingly, however, my favorite encounter of the outing was not with a Bald Eagle!

Rather, it occurred as I was patiently sitting on the bank of the Catawba River, hoping for a Bald Eagle to fly by.

Instead, a curious River Otter came swimming downstream, quite close by!

It paused for a few moments to check me out, before heading on.

Yet again, Mother Nature provided me with an unexpected treat, and brought a smile to my face!

Today, for your viewing pleasure, I would like to share a few images of this River Otter, and several of a couple of Red-shouldered Hawks, that I also encountered by the river.

Enjoy!

Stay safe and have a great day!
