A Few Local Greenway Insects:

On September 28, 2020, I visited Little Sugar Creek Greenway and McAlpine Creek Park. Among other subjects, I photographed several different insects.

Today I would like to share a few of these images:

Common Buckeye Butterfly; Grasshopper; two photographs of Cabbage White Butterflies; and a Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly.

Enjoy!

McAlpine Creek Park Kingfisher:

When I visited McAlpine Creek Park on September 28, 2020, I had the opportunity to observe and to photograph a Belted Kingfisher skillfully and successfully hunting in the pond.

Here are a few of my favorite images of this activity.

McAlpine Creek Park Osprey:

The Belted Kingfisher was not the only bird hunting in the pond when I visited McAlpine Creek Park on September 28, 2020. An Osprey, which has been hanging out there in recent weeks, was fishing at the same time.

I observed and photographed an unsuccessful attempt by the Osprey to snag a fish.

Here are several of my favorite images of the Osprey’s failed effort.

Two “Greats” From McAlpine Creek Park:

A Great Egret was also hunting in the pond when I visited McAlpine Creek Park on September 28, 2020.

In addition, there is a Great Blue Heron, with a partially amputated left lower extremity, that hangs out in the park. This bird is obviously quite accustomed to being around people, and permits non-threatening close approaches.

Here are several images of these two birds from my September 28th visit to McAlpine Creek Park.

Enjoy!
