American Goldfinch Invasion

September 7, 2020:

Over the past couple of months, our backyard has been visited on a daily basis by a squadron of American Goldfinches (Spinus tristis), who have been gorging themselves on Coneflowers (Genus: Echinacea) and Black-eyed Susans (Genus: Rudbeckia), which my wife has purposefully planted.

The Goldfinches are generally a little skittish around people. However, with a little patience and luck, particularly when the birds are distracted with eating, you can grab a nice image or two.

For your viewing pleasure, here are a few of my favorite photographs of this activity from the past couple of months.

Enjoy!

Stay safe, and have a great day!
